Getting Psyched for Bishop with some old footage.

Tomorrow we get back on the road and head to Bishop.  Psyched to be back there and circuit the old classics and maybe even manage some new problems.  Here are a couple older videos from previous years.  I should make some more of these.

Dad Camp

It has been a week since Hammie and I dropped Lina off at LAX and other than missing her things are great.  We spent our first week of "dad camp" back in Bishop hanging with friends and frolicking among giant granite eggs.  It was a bit hard to leave such a Hammie-friendly area but we have loaded our van and are in route to Joe's Valley to try our luck there.  I'll try to post more frequent updates from our adventures.

Bishop Bouldering

The giant granite blocks of the Buttermilks have been working us.  We've been here for under a week and our skin is totally wrecked.  It's hard to pencil in an off day when there are so many things I want to climb but I'll have to show some restraint if I want to send anything new.  We'll see how it goes.

I've been a bit behind on updating the blog as my computer seems to be on the way out.  I just hope it doesn't take my whole harddrive with it when it dies.

Taking a Digger

It's always nice to capture a good fall, especially when the climber emerges unscathed.




Disclaimer: I'd like to say that Chris is a good spotter. Actually, I think the video is a testament to this as Chris skillfully walks that thin line between avoiding a dab and catching the climber. Of course, things don't always go as planned and bad falls still happen with good spots. I don't reckon there is a good way to spot this fall without dabbing, but pad placement could have been better.

Rio's Secret Arete

Rio's Secret Arete, as the name implies, is hidden on the south rim of the Happies. This little gem can be a bit tricky and is one of the better problems in the volcanics.

The volcanic areas around Bishop are home to several worthy boulder problems. One of the less trafficked gems is Rene in the Happy Boulders. Rene is highball with a pull from a shallow two-finger pocket for the crux. This problem should be high on the list for anyone visiting the Happies.

So there hasn't been too much climbing the last week or two. Lina's dad and brother are here and we've been winding our way from Los Angeles toward Pie Town doing the sightseeing/family thing. We've actually been having consistently bad weather and I've come to the conclusion that when more than three Swedes get together they start to produce their own poopy weather. Crazy Swedes.

We havemanaged to get a few climbing days in here and there to keep the shakes at bay and because they happen to be cool places in themselves. We made a quick stop at the Kraft Boulders before heading into Las Vegas for a night filled with debauchery (Hammie picked up an addiction to slots and started chain smoking. Vegas gets them early) and we touched some sandstone in Zion National Park before weeping as we drove away without getting to really explore the park's vast potential. And now we're in Sedona, AZ and hoping for a full day of climbing tomorrow. Psyched.

Bishop

We made it to Bishop! The weather is fantastic and there are heaps of friends hanging out. We're still trying to dial in living in the van with Hammie but it's getting better every day. On the climbing front both Lina and I are feeling weak from rotting in Sweden the last couple of months and I'm nursing a cold. Despite the excuses I'm sure we'll be back in form in no time. Other folks are climbing strong and recent highlights include Prairie cruising the Hulk, Jenny rocking the Iron Man Traverse and Jason shaking his way up the Mandala (pretty impressive actually). Hopefully Lina and I will be able to jump on the sending train. Plenty more to come.
