Wild Basin Bouldering

It feels great being back in Colorado and I'm reminded why I used to make annual pilgrimages here.  The climbing is plentiful, the altitude makes for decent temps and there are loads of motivated climbers to get out with.  Unfortunately Colorado isn't the best place to come with a 3 year old as the long approaches take on a whole new level of heinousness with an extra 35 pounds wobbling around on your shoulders.  Having good friends here to help out with Hammie is the only way I could make this trip work.  Many thanks to all of you (especially Antonio, we love you Toto)

Due to a cold and jet-lag I've taken it kind of easy for the start of the trip.  While I climbed the first 3 days here I did select areas with minimal approaches and I managed to restrain myself a bit.  Now that I've taken an off day and finally gotten a night with more than 5 hours of sleep (Hammie is not making the adjustment easy) I'm ready to really dig in and hoping for a big day tomorrow.

Here are a couple pictures from our first day at an area called Wild Basin in RMNP.

America!!

I'm packing my bags for the annual pilgrimage to the land of the free.  This year Hammie and I will have 3 weeks in which to see friends and family, eat lots of pie and climb lots of boulders.  Our trip will begin in Colorado (we arrive in Denver on Aug 27th) and from there we'll mosey down to Pie Town for the Pie Festival on Sept 8th.  We'll be doing lots of climbing on the way so if anyone has some suggestions I'm all ears.

Here is a video of some of the climbing near Pie Town

Video: Executive Privilege and The Goonies

Here's a little video of a couple sweet problems I recently put up.  Neither have been repeated but both are worthy of some traffic.  Enjoy

Executive Privilege

Here's a couple more pictures of Executive Privilege, a problem I put up earlier this summer.  The problem is awesome and the area holds a bit more and is only about 20 minutes from town.

A Productive Day Video

A couple week ago I went out brushing with Aleksej and I documented some of the day and threw something together.  This video is a little bit of an experiment in terms of time-lapse and syncing to music and while I'm not all that happy with how it turned out I learned a bit so the next one will be better.

The three problems we put up that day are all very good and the last two still need a second ascent.  Hope you enjoy.

The Once-ler Project

The Once-ler Project is steep and hard.  In a couple sessions I've managed to do all the moves but don't feel even close to completing the thing.  When it goes I reckon it'll be one of the harder things I've done and the hardest think in Solklinten.  Time will tell as new beta might be found or it may just work to my weaknesses.  Regardless, I'm psyched to get back on it on a good day.

Working the Once-ler Project

A closer shot of the big move.  This is the 5th move and you still have 4 more hard moves before easier territory on the top-out.

Wishing I had more skin and stronger tendons.
